BROWNING NOMAD BOOTS

Vero Vellini, Neoprene Rifle Sling

When I bought My new Weatherby rifle for my sheep hunt, I put a different type of sling on it. The Vero Vellini is made of Neoprene and performs excellent in rough situations. The Neoprene helps keep the rifle from sliding around on your shoulder. In my eyes that is the purpose of a sling, to keep the rifle on your shoulder. Alot of straps are made of Cordura, a slick material that usually slides around.
The neoprene is also quiet and very comfortable on a long outing.

Abe and Son Elk Bugle

I have been using Abes Bugles for about 4 or 5 years now. They are without a doubt one of the best on the market today. They are loud and carry a long way. That is important in the deep timber and in large canyons. It can also be a quiet bugle, and I've even used as a cow call in a pinch.
The latex can be easily replaced and is inexpensive. I've changed the latex while a bull was coming in. If you are serious about it, go with Abe's.

Nosler, Partition Bullets

I've been using Nosler patition bullets for quite some time now. I've taken Deer, both Black tail and Mule, Black bear, Goat, Moose, Sheep, and Grizzly. The Grizzly was downed with one shot using the 250 grain partition from a .338. The bullet performed perfectly after inspection. I chose a .257 Weatherby Mag. for my once in a lifetime Oregon Sheep hunt, and there was no question about what bullet would be used. It also performed excellent. If you are serious about hunting, then you had better be serious about what bullets you shoot. It better be NOSLER.

THE BECKEL 'T T' WALL TENT

I have used wall tents while deer and elk hunting for many years. These tents have provided much comfort, and more memories than I can remember.
When it came time to replace them I wanted something with the same attributes but lighter in weight, easier to pack, and easier to set up. after talking to several tent manufacturers, I decided on Beckel Canvas Products. They had designed the "TT" which is a wall tent with one upright center pole. It looks similar to a Tee Pee. This tent can be completely set up in ten minutes by one person. The door is screened and zippered as well as two very large windows. The stove pipe hole is covered when not in use, and so is a vent in the roof to allow moisture to escape. The pitch of roof is so extreme that there is little chance of snow, rain or anything else building up. My first opportunity to use this tent came in Sept. of 1999, on a caribou hunt in Alaska. We spent 7 days in the Alaskan bush living on Mountain House freeze dried food and fresh caribou steaks. Our pilot had made the comment that a wall tent would be across the lake by morning, but we were anxious to try this new design. The weather was favorable, but windy for the first few days, it eventually turned for the worst. We found ourselves in a torrential downpour mixed with high winds. The "TT" stood tall against mother natures fierceness and never let a drop of rain pelt its way through the fabric. The unique design of the "TT" tent suited the Alaskan weather to a T. I am totally satisfied with this tent and feel that it can with stand most if not all, weather conditions. I would recommend this tent to any outdoor enthusiast that likes the comfort of a wall tent. The dimension of my tent is 15' by 15' and weighs 40 lbs with poles, ropes, and stakes. The custom fit rain fly is an additional10 lbs.

Irish Setter Boots, The Montana 865

A very rugged boot with an aggressive Vibram Bob sole. 1000 grams of Thinsulate for extreme cold. Once broken in, it is a very comfortable boot. Used extensively during the Oregon sheep hunt and the entire 2000 hunting season. I used them in extreme rocky terrain and they seem to wear very well. They are now one of my top boots.

Weaver 2x10x50 Grand Slam Rifle Scope

I switched to Weaver this past summer. After I put a new Leupold scope on my rifle that turned out to be bad right out of the box. I did some research and found that Weaver had tested the scopes with the guides and hunters in Alaska. What a test, and they found that alot of the hunters and guides switched to Weaver after the test was over. The new line of scopes are fantastic. They have multi coated lenses to reduce glare, and give excellent clarity. The one piece tube construction makes them waterproof, fogproof, and shockproof. When it comes to optics, don't take any chances. Go with Weaver.

The Gun Mate Bore Snake, By Michaels of Oregon

After I learned I had drawn a once in a lifetime Sheep tag, I began spending a lot of time at the gun range. I new I needed a quick way to clean my rifle at the range. The Bore Snake is light and compact and can be packed with you in the field. With just a couple of passes through, you've cleaned the bore of loose grit and debris. I need to get one for every rifle because of the time it saves. One of the hottest products on the market.

Bull pacs, Pack Frame

Although I did not use it alot this past hunting season, I was able to use it enough to know it is an excellent pack frame. It is light but strong enough to pack more than you can carry. Good wide padded straps provide comfortable long distance outings. A waste band takes the weight off your shoulders for even more comfort. Like the slogan says. "The finest pack to rest on any hunters back."

The Hyper Lip Single, By Primos

I have used several different calls over the years. The call that has really improved my ability to call more bulls in close is the "Hyper lip Single". By "Primos Hunting Calls".
It is a call with a good Nasally sound that carries extremely well through the timber and deep canyons in Elk country.
I've had bulls answer that were so far away, I thought they could not be answering my call. But they were!
It can also be toned down when the bulls start getting close.
One of the most important things about the call is that it is easy to learn how to use. But just like any calls, buy them during the off season and learn then, not two weeks before the season opens.
This is a must have call if you are serious about calling big bulls in close. It can be bought by itself or with a cassette on how to use it.
